On September 5, cybercriminals stole Rs. 22 lakhs from the bank account of a Narhe woman merchant (33). After the Pune cybercrime police validated her complaint application, which she had sent shortly after the occurrence, she filed a complaint with the Sinhagad Road police on Tuesday.

Senior inspector Raghvendra Kshirsagar of Sinhagad Road police said, “The woman shopkeeper runs a business of online money transfer. She had received a sum of Rs 25 lakh from one of her clients on the morning of 5 Sept.”

“She neither shared the details of her current bank account nor any PIN or ATM card details with anyone. She had checked her computers and mobile phones, and we did not find any suspicious files, like any remote access software,” he said.

Kshirsagar said, “We suspect that the fraudsters temporarily took control of her computer and then immediately restored her programmes after siphoning off the sum of Rs 22 lakh.”

“We also suspect that her bank account was compromised by the fraudsters,” he said.

“The money has gone to eight different bank accounts, and we are further probing the case,” he said.

A 38-year-old Hadapsar resident from Kalepadal recently complained to the police, claiming that she lost Rs 9.75 lakh to online scammers in June while trying to sell her ancestral temple.
