Data breach at an insurance administration services provider reveals information on 8 lakh US users

Insurance administrative services provider Landmark Admin has acknowledged a data breach. The business acknowledged that more than 8 lakh consumers were impacted by a cyberattack in May. The business, which offers back-office support to large insurance companies, stated that it requested an outside cybersecurity firm look into the incident. According to the inquiry, the cybercriminal gained access to files that contained 806,519 users’ personal data. Names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and details about insurance policies may be among the exposed data.

American Monumental Life Insurance Company, Pellerin Life Insurance Company, and a number of other companies are among the clients of Landmark Admin.

What the company said about the data breach

According to a document submitted to the Main Attorney General’s office, Landmark took action to stop the attack after noticing questionable activity in May. To stop the attack from spreading, the corporation disabled remote access to its network and its IT systems. According to Landmark Admin, impacted individuals are being notified.

The company’s data breach notification said: “Based on the investigation, the following information related to potentially impacted individuals may have been subject to unauthorized access: first name/initial and last name; address; Social Security number; tax identification number; driver’s license number/state-issued identification card; passport number; financial account number; medical information; date of birth; health insurance policy number; and life and annuity policy information.

Please note that the information above varies for each potentially impacted individual. Affected individuals will be notified by mail of information that was impacted.”

People are strongly advised to keep a tight eye on their bank accounts and credit reports for any unusual activity, given the sensitive nature of the data purportedly exposed in the Landmark Admin incident. This action can lessen the chance of financial fraud or identity theft. Since no group took credit for the cyberattack, its nature is also unknown.
