The deal will combine Databricks’ AI technology with the generative AI startup’s language-model platform
Databricks has agreed to acquire generative AI startup MosaicML. The deal is roughly valued at $1.3 billion, the former said on Monday.
As rapid artificial intelligence (AI) thrusts in recent months have come from big tech, including Alphabet’s Google and Microsoft Corp., the deal comes at a time when AI is dominating the tech industry.
Allowing businesses a “simple, fast way to retain control, security, and ownership over their valuable data without high costs”, the deal will combine Databricks’ AI technology with the generative AI startup’s language-model platform.
Companies could also use the open-source code released by Databricks in March to create their own chatbots, along the lines of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, said Databricks, which sells software tools for building AI systems.
