The organizers of Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee, announced on Wednesday that former US President Donald Trump, a Republican candidate for president, will speak on July 27.
Donald Trump, a former US president and current Republican contender for president, will speak on July 27 at Bitcoin 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee, the conference’s organizers said on Wednesday. In June, at a San Francisco event, Trump, who is challenging Democratic President Joe Biden in November’s U.S. election, positioned himself as an advocate for cryptocurrencies and attacked Democratic attempts to regulate the industry. In the face of increased regulatory scrutiny following the bankruptcies of several cryptocurrency firms in 2022 that alarmed investors, exposed fraud and malfeasance, and left millions of investors out of pocket, the industry is attempting to exert more and more influence over American lawmakers.
According to the organizers on the conference website, Trump is the primary attraction of the event. “Trump announced his support for the American Bitcoin industry in May 2024, advocating for financial freedom and the growth of the U.S. Bitcoin industry on the global stage,” the announcement reads. Additionally, Trump recently stated that he wanted to see more American companies mine bitcoin. “We want to make all of the remaining Bitcoin in the United States,” Trump stated in June on his Truth Social platform. The twins Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, two prominent cryptocurrency investors, as well as executives from Coinbase and other cryptocurrency companies, attended the June tech event in San Francisco, where Trump raised $12 million. Democratic President Biden’s White House has stated that it is ready to collaborate with Congress to develop a regulatory framework for cryptocurrency.
