Eight people were detained by the district police’s cyber unit in relation to six incidents of cybercrime that were settled between September 6 and September 12. An further Rs 2.68 lakh was returned to the victims, for a total recovery of Rs 3.88 lakh. The accused’s bank accounts have been stopped with a total of Rs 69,916.
The detained, identified as Mohammed Zishan, Mukesh Kumar, Mayank Parashari, Vikas, Ravinder Babal, Sahil Khan, alias Tarun, Hukam Singh, and Vimlesh Kumar, were reportedly taken into custody from a number of locations in Delhi and the National Capital Region, according to ACP, Cyber Crime, Abhimanyu Goyat. Sixteen hundred and sixteen complaints were settled in this time frame.
Goyat urged locals to be vigilant against the many strategies employed by cybercriminals, such as presenting themselves as bank representatives, offering fake job opportunities, guaranteeing rapid returns on investments, having users complete tasks on Telegram, providing easy bank loans, blackmailing through pornographic videos, and tricking users into sending money via QR codes, UPIs, or OTPs.
He also advised locals to be wary of phony websites and communications regarding the payment of property tax, water, and power bills. Avoid downloading dubious links, giving out OTPs, or disclosing personal information over the phone, as these actions can result in online fraud.
Additionally, he said that in order to help block the offenders’ bank accounts and help victims recover their funds, cybercrimes should be reported right away to 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in.
