EKA Mobility appoints Sohel Merchant as chief innovation officer

Sohel Merchant appointed chief innovation officer (CIO) of EKA, a technology and electric mobility company owned by Pinnacle Mobility Solutions, on Tuesday.

For over two decades, Merchant has been employed in the automotive sector, specializing in program management and vehicle engineering. He has held positions with Ford Motor Company, Faraday Future, Tesla, and Canoo.

He worked on the Model S and Model X car designs at Tesla.

“With his invaluable global experience, Sohel joins our robust senior leadership team. Together with our global management team, we look forward to continuing to deliver on cutting-edge solutions and redefining the future of sustainable transportation,” Sudhir Mehta, founder and chairman of EKA, said in a statement.

Before joining EKA, Merchant served as the cofounder and chief technology officer at Canoo, where he contributed to the development of innovative electric platforms and vehicles for the US Department of Defense, NASA, and the commercial sector.

EKA, which seeks to provide dependable and effective mobility solutions to the general public, has equity partners in Mitsui (Japan) and VDL Groep (Netherlands).
