The CEO of iQOO India, Nipun Marya, has alerted consumers nationwide to a common email scam that is targeting them. Marya recently tweeted a screenshot of a bogus email purporting to be from him on X, the former Twitter. The grammatically incorrect and misspelled email tries to trick its recipients by begging that they not call since the sender is “in a meeting.”

The screenshot shared on X shows that mail was sent from Marya to a user named Siddhartha. However, the email ID from which it was sent – [email protected] – looks shady and doesn’t seem to be associated with the CEO of iQoo India. This suggests that the mail wasn’t sent by Marya but by some scammer.
In the mail body, the scammer wrote: “I will need you to handle a piece of work for me. Calling your cell phone will be fine, but all calls are restricted here presently in a meeting. Are you available at this time?

Marya used the social networking site to alert people to these kinds of unwanted emails and advise caution, especially in cases where the letters include demands or threats. This serves as a reminder to exercise caution and confirm the legitimacy of emails before replying or interacting with them, especially if they appear strange or suspicious.
How the government has warned users against fake e-notices sent over email
The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (14C) alerted the public in July to a new scam involving “fake emails” purporting to be official e-notices. In public advice, the 14C urged people to exercise caution and confirm the legitimacy of any email-based e-notices they receive. These bogus emails frequently imitate official correspondence from the government and may include requests or threats to trick receivers.
Along with outlining several actions to assist citizens in protecting themselves, the 14C also addressed the growing threat posed by phoney government e-notices. Users were requested by the unit to confirm that the sender’s email address ended in “gov.in.”
Second, the 14C advised users to look up the credentials of any officials referenced in the email online.
In order to confirm the legitimacy of the email, users were also advised by the alert to get in direct contact with the appropriate government agency. People can prevent themselves from becoming victims of these dishonest schemes by following these easy actions.
