With Bowman’s appointment, Steve Colins has left the position of CTO after four years in order to investigate artificial intelligence and “return to his roots” in early-stage company advisory and investing.

The creator of the Candy Crush Saga, King, has appointed Eric Bowman, a former executive of Zalando and TomTom, as the new chief technology officer (CTO).

Bowman will oversee a multidisciplinary tech team under the direction of King’s AI group as a member of senior leadership. He will be directly reporting to King President Tjodolf Sommestad and will be instrumental in developing the company’s technology roadmap and strategy.

With Bowman’s appointment, Steve Colins has left the position of CTO after four years in order to investigate artificial intelligence and “return to his roots” in early-stage company advisory and investing.

With thirty years of experience, Bowman has worked in engineering, management, leadership, and other roles. Prior to this, he was in top positions at TomTom, Glint Groupe, Zalando, and EA. At the latter, he oversaw product engineering teams developing location-based solutions in his capacity as CTO.

As the technical programming lead at the time, he was a member of the core EA team that created The Sims 1.0 and contributed to the global launch of Three’s 3G.

“King is leading the way in driving the dynamism of the mobile games sector, and I’m honoured to be joining the business at such an exciting time,” said Bowman.

“There is a technology revolution upon us, and the opportunity that it creates in pushing the boundaries of innovation is endless.”

Sommestad added, “I’m pleased to welcome Eric to the Kingdom to lead our technology strategy and take our innovation to new heights.

“Our strategic focus has never been more fundamental to the success of our business in servicing our mission of Making the World Playful. Eric brings strategic thinking, technological expertise, and a lot of passion for delivering great user experiences.”
