The Himachal Pradesh Police is establishing CY Station-I, the state’s first data centre, in Shimla, the state capital, to guarantee prompt resolution of complaints pertaining to cybercrime in the region. Next week is anticipated to see the opening of the data center.

The primary goal of the data center, according to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Cybercrime Mohit Chawla, will be the integration of cybercrime complaints.

He said, “There are three crime police stations in Himachal Pradesh, including one each in Shimla, Dharamshala, and Mandi. Cybercrime complaints are registered in every part of the state at respective police stations.” “The cyber cells at the district headquarters have been named Integrated Cyber Extended Units (ICE). The first thing that the data centre will do is integration of all the ICE units,” he said.

“The cybercrime helpline number 1930 will also be integrated with the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP) on the day of the inauguration of the data center. With this, a complaint will be registered on a real-time basis. If someone is involved in financial fraud, his number and accounts will be hotlisted,” the DIG said.

He claimed that every day, more than 250 complaints about cybercrime were filed around the state. He claimed that during the previous two months, scammers in the state had defrauded people out of Rs 8.16 crore, of which Rs 87 lakh had been recovered.

The DIG also suggested that users avoid downloading unknown apps on their phones and click on unexpected URLs in order to protect themselves from cybercriminals. To guarantee prompt response to complaints, the police connected the NCRP and the cybercrime helpline number 1930 in July. Thanks to this, individuals can now file complaints in 15 to 20 minutes. The state established a 24-hour hotline for cybercrime on March 20, 2023.
