As Flipkart prepares for its IPO, the action is part of a larger reorganization of the company’s senior leadership.

Prathyusha Agarwal, a former executive at BYJU’S, was named vice president of Flipkart’s value commerce platform, Shopsy.

Agarwal’s LinkedIn page states that she is an IIT Madras and IIM Ahmedabad alumna. She was previously employed by BYJU’S from February 2022 to October 2023 as the Chief Business Officer. After that, she served as Zydus Digital Health Solutions’ Venture Board Advisor.

As Flipkart prepares for its IPO, the action is part of a larger reorganization of the company’s senior leadership. Anuj Rathi of Jupiter Money was also recruited by Walmart-backed Flipkart earlier this month to become CEO of Cleartrip.

Shopsy aims to democratize hyper-value commerce in India by using a zero-commission marketplace approach. Over 16 million shoppers were served by the site between January and March of 2023.

When the vertical was first introduced in 2021, it functioned as a social commerce platform where resellers from smaller cities could place orders for their friends and family and receive payment. In order to expand the platform, its current focus is on encouraging direct customer purchases.

Walmart, which owns 85% of Flipkart, revealed impressive advertising revenue from the platform during the quarter ending in February 2024. China and Flipkart also stopped selling to the Wall Street behemoth abroad.

Flipkart was reportedly considering moving its headquarters from Singapore to India in advance of its planned initial public offering (IPO). Although Flipkart isn’t eyeing an IPO in 2024, people with knowledge reportedly said that the business is monitoring successful domestic consumer IPOs and prioritizing profitability.
