Effective September 1st, First National Bank (FNB) has named La-Cell Mouton as its new chief information officer (CIO).
Mouton assumes the position after serving as Kevin Mitchell’s co-CIO for a while; Mitchell has since moved on to a FirstRand Group position.
The appointment of Mouton, according to a statement from FNB, will give the CIO teams around the company more capability.
In 2000, the recently appointed CIO began working for the bank as a BANKit Online Banking system developer. He was a member of the team that moved BANKit and the old online banking system into one platform between 2005 and 2007, creating the current online banking service.
He joined forces with other companies to improve the online banking platform after being named CIO of FNB Online Banking in 2009. After the online and app teams merged, he oversaw an iDigtech team that focused on mastering big data technology in order to use machine learning to fight online fraud. This effort resulted in the establishment of Intelligent Data and Analytics in 2017.
Mouton was appointed head of the core banking platform in 2020 and is in charge of modernizing the platform for use by FNB’s retail and commercial operations. In 2022, he was the retail segment’s CIO as well.
“La-Cell has been an integral part of our digital transformation. Over the past 23 years, he has helped deliver some of the most innovative products and services that have helped propel FNB beyond banking, while at the same time driving capability modernization and IT delivery,” Kellan comments.
“I am proud that we are once again able to draw from our talent pool within FNB, highlighting the value and importance of our dynamic succession planning that has consistently helped us grow and promote our top performers.”
