Gary Mathapati has taken a significant step by joining Kalyani Steels Limited as the Vice President & Head of Information Technology (IT) in December 2024.

With over 27+ years of experience, including 8 years spent in the U.S., Mr. Mathapati is set to lead the company through its digital transformation and leverage innovative IT strategies to help Kalyani Steels achieve its business objectives.

Gary Mathapati’s leadership role will be a crucial asset in achieving the Kalyani Steels’ goals, and his expertise will assist in shaping the company’s IT infrastructure and strategy. His work in the past has earned him a reputation as a forward-thinking and results-driven IT leader, known for creating digital solutions that bring tangible business growth.

His Record of Excellence

Gary Mathapati’s journey in the IT industry spans more than two decades, during which he has worked across various sectors including Steel, FMCD, FMCG, IT Consulting, and Engineering. He specializes in digital transformation and business process optimization, with a strong track record of building and leading cross-functional teams that deliver exceptional results.

Before joining Kalyani Steels, Gary Mathapati held important leadership roles at several prominent companies. His most recent position was as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Butterfly Appliances which is part of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited. In this role, he played a key part in leading digital transformation efforts across different business areas. His work in integrating business programs and aligning IT strategies with the company’s overall goals helped build a smooth and efficient tech infrastructure at Butterfly Appliances.

Key Achievements at Butterfly Appliances and Crompton Greaves

Gary Mathapati played a key role in the successful implementation of SAP S/4 HANA, along with upgrades for SAP BTP, SAC, Fiori, and MDG. He spearheaded strategic initiatives such as DMS/Tally, SFA, and dealer portals to enhance and streamline sales processes.

To improve field operations, he introduced mobile solutions, including field-assist apps. Leveraging AI and machine learning, he drove actionable insights that enhanced decision-making across sales, finance, and spend analytics.

Additionally, he led major improvements in Data centre migration, SD-WAN, and endpoint security to optimize system performance. Gary also conducted comprehensive security assessments and implemented robust measures to safeguard the organization’s data

Previous Experience

Pidilite Industries (Jan 2011–Oct 2016): Gary Mathapati led multiple SAP and non-SAP projects in various domains, including Finance, Production, R&D, and Procurement. Notably, he successfully led SAP rollouts following acquisitions and set up the SAP Master Data Cell.

OTIS India Elevator (Oct 2006–Dec 2010): As Program/Sr. Project Manager, Mathapati was part of the executive team and responsible for managing complex web application development projects, migration, and production support.
