Google and shipping behemoth CMA CGM strike an AI agreement

The two companies announced on Thursday that Alphabet’s Google and French shipping and logistics company CMA CGM have teamed up to accelerate the use of AI solutions throughout their global operations.

The two businesses said on Thursday that CMA CGM (CMACG.UL), a French shipping and logistics operator, and Alphabet’s Google (GOOGL.O) have partnered to expedite the implementation of AI solutions throughout their global operations. Through the optimization of routes, container handling, and inventory management, CMA CGM seeks to reduce costs and carbon emissions while maximizing efficiency and reducing delivery times.

The agreement was hailed as a “crucial step” in CMA CGM’s transformation strategy by Chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé. The “infrastructure, data expertise, and long-term approach to AI” of Google, according to Google France CEO Sébastien Missoffe, will support CMA CGM’s expansion. The logistics division of the company, CEVA Logistics, will employ Google AI-based management tools to better forecast volume and demand and plan operations at its warehouses.

The media division of CMA CGM, which has a stake in the French private broadcaster M6 (MMTP.PA) and earlier this year acquired BFM TV, the country’s top rolling news channel, will develop tools to assist its journalists in document synthesis and translation, media snippet creation for social media, and the digitization and research of archives.
