Google’s CEO, Pichai, claimed that this year’s layoffs were aimed at removing layers to simplify execution and boost speed in some areas.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai informed staff that further job losses are expected at the Alphabet-owned (GOOGL.O.) corporation this year.
According to an article, Pichai stated in the memo that this year’s layoffs were focused on reducing layers to simplify execution and increase pace in some areas.
The action adds to indications that job layoffs will continue this year as businesses attempt to use artificial intelligence software and automation to reduce workloads.
“These role eliminations are not on the scale of last year’s reductions and will not affect every team,” Google CEO Pichai told all staff in a memo.
“We have ambitious goals and will be investing in our big priorities this year.”
A Google spokesman confirmed that an email was distributed to all workers.
Last week, Google announced that it would lay off numerous individuals from its voice assistant groups, hardware teams responsible for Pixel, Nest, and Fitbit, advertising sales team, and augmented reality team.
In January 2023, Alphabet revealed plans to slash 12,000 workers, or 6% of its global workforce. As of September 2023, the corporation had 182,381 employees worldwide.
