Gunjan Kedia Appointed as First Female CEO of U.S. Bancorp

Gunjan Kedia, MSIA ’94, has made history by being appointed the first female CEO of U.S. Bancorp, effective April 15. With over 30 years of experience in the financial industry, Kedia’s appointment marks a major milestone, placing her among a distinguished group of women leading top financial institutions.

Having joined U.S. Bancorp in 2016, Kedia has played a key role in the company’s growth and success, most recently serving as president, where she oversaw all revenue lines. In her new position as CEO, Kedia takes over from Andy Cecere, who had served as CEO since 2017. Alongside her new role, Kedia has also been appointed to the U.S. Bancorp Board of Directors.

Kedia has remained closely connected to the Tepper School of Business, where she earned her MSIA, by serving on the Business Board of Advisors. She has contributed to various alumni events, including speaking at panels, delivering a W.L. Mellon Series talk, participating as an Alumni Speaker at the Tepper School’s Master’s Hooding Ceremony, and volunteering for class reunions.

Before joining U.S. Bancorp, Kedia held several prominent global executive positions at State Street Financial and BNY Mellon. She also held leadership roles at McKinsey & Company and PwC. In addition to her Tepper degree, Kedia holds a bachelor’s degree with distinction in engineering from the Delhi School of Engineering.

Over the years, Kedia has earned numerous accolades for her accomplishments. She has been recognized six times on American Banker’s Most Powerful Women in Finance list and twice on Barron’s 100 Most Influential Women in U.S. Finance. She also received the Tepper School’s Alumni Achievement Award in 2018. In addition to her role with the Tepper School’s Business Board of Advisors, Kedia currently serves on the boards of PBS, Junior Achievement USA, and CorStone.
