Cyber fraud victim was helped by police in recovering Rs 2.91 lakh.
The police claim that the victim was tricked by the scammers, who pretended to be representatives of private banks and offered to raise his credit card limit. After requesting his personal information, including the card number, they told him to install an APK file that they had sent to him via WhatsApp.
The victim’s mobile phone was compromised after installing the application, and his account was used for several transactions. The victim reported that without his OTP details, a total of Rs 2.91 lakh was taken out of his credit card.
When the victim realized he had been tricked by cybercriminals, he went to the Hyderabad cybercrime police, who quickly found and removed the malware from his phone.
Following the registration of a case, the police notified the relevant bank authorities to halt the transactions, allowing the victim’s credit card to be credited with the lost funds without a court judgment.
