Hyderabad will receive a regional center of the Indian Institute of Creative Technology, which the Central Government is establishing in Mumbai as a national center of excellence for extended reality, animation, visual effects, gaming, and comics (AVGC-XR) under a public-private partnership model.
Hub & spoke model
It will be a key pillar in supporting the industry’s skills needs as well as in assisting individual innovators in establishing future startups and businesses through incubators and accelerators. Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju stated in Hyderabad on Wednesday (November 13, 2024) that although the Institute will be established in Mumbai, it will also have several regional spokes, with Hyderabad serving as one of them.
Facility in IMAGE Tower
At the India Game Developer Conference (IGDC 2024), which began in Hyderabad on November 13, he informed the media that “all activities are going to start quickly. The facility in Hyderabad will be set up in the IMAGE Tower.” The Maharashtra government has set aside property for the permanent building, and the Institute in Mumbai has already begun operations from a temporary site.
Industry will run the centre
The industry organizations FICCI and CII will own the remaining 48% of the national institute, with the center holding the remaining 48%. The senior official explained that game creation is a crucial component of India’s media and entertainment scene and that it will be managed by the industry and take industry requirements into account. It has enormous employment and economic possibilities.
Supporting the domestic gaming sector is necessary because, if not, games from other countries would invade our nation, despite the fact that we have a rich cultural legacy and a long history of telling stories. Only 2% of the world market is accounted for by India, making it a sunrise sector. Mr. Jaju stated that the goal is to raise the share to 4% and that the federal government and a number of state governments have been implementing policy changes to spur growth.
India will remain at the forefront of the global creative economy thanks to this new institution, which will act as a center for innovation, creativity, and talent development.
