India now leads the world in 6G technology patent filings

India is rapidly developing 6G technology after successfully implementing 5G throughout the country in record time, and it currently leads the world in 6G patent filings.

In terms of 6G patent filings worldwide, the nation is currently in the top six. By 2030, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants India to play a leading role in the design, development, and implementation of 6G technology.

The ‘Bharat 6G Vision’ has already prompted the government to consider 470 suggestions on ‘Accelerated research on 6G ecosystems.’ Two next-generation testbeds have been financed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to further 6G research.

In the next three years, India can contribute one-sixth of global standards and earn 10% of all 6G patents, according to a government-led commission. The nation has already started a number of projects, including ‘Bharat 6G Vision’ and ‘Bharat 6G Alliance,’ in addition to commissioning testbeds and establishing a framework for patent and IPR assistance.

According to industry experts, the establishment of wireline and intelligent wireless broadband networks with dependable connectivity is essential for India to emerge as a deep-tech leader.

Global telecom leaders, specialists, and academics from over 190 nations will gather in India from October 14–24 for the 10-day World Telecom Standardisation Assembly (WTSA2024). In the 150-year history of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the first-ever “WTSA 2024” will take place in the nation’s capital from October 14–24.

As we get ready for innovations like 6G and beyond, DoT said that India’s hosting of the ‘WTSA-2024’ is a chance to shape the global telecom agenda. With the launch of the WTSA 2024 Outreach Sessions, the DoT has now started the process.

The outreach events, which are planned in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, are intended to give students a unique opportunity to learn from and interact directly with professionals in the field, promoting deep connections and information sharing.
