Check Point Software Technologies reveals Indian healthcare sector was the most impacted by cyberattacks

With 8,614 assaults per organization each week, the Indian healthcare industry was the most affected by cyberattacks, according to cybersecurity solutions firm Check Point Software Technologies.

According to the firm’s study, over the previous six months, government/military (4,731) and education/research (7,983) came next.

According to the State of Global Cyber Security 2025 study, firms in India saw an average of 3,291 assaults each week during the previous six months, which is far higher than the 1,847 global average.

Two Remote Access Trojans (RATs), one infostealer (Formbook), one ransomware strain (Maze), and a botnet and downloader—both known as FakeUpdates—are among the most common malware in India, the survey found.

According to the study, 500 GB of biometric data, including fingerprint and facial scan information, were made public by a significant data breach that occurred in India in May.

The application of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) in cyberattacks was another intriguing discovery.

According to the paper, generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) began to play a bigger part in cyberattacks in 2024. According to the research, GenAI was used to speed up hacks, steal money, and sway public opinion through anything from deepfake videos to misinformation operations.

The research also noted that infostealer assaults increased by 58% over this period, indicating a developing cyber ecosystem.

According to the research, threat actors targeted bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environments in order to compromise corporate resources, resulting in over 70% of compromised devices being personal.

“Cybersecurity in 2025 is not only about protecting networks; it’s about safeguarding trust in our systems and institutions. The State of Global Cyber Security 2025 highlights the rapid evolution of threats and reinforces the need for resilience in the face of persistent and complex adversaries,” said Maya Horowitz, VP of Research at Check Point Software.

According to the survey, there has been a concerning 44 percent rise in cyberattacks worldwide in the past year.

The research claims that nation-states are moving away from sudden strikes and toward long-term initiatives to undermine confidence and cause systemic instability.
