German chipmaker Infineon to cut 1400 jobs, relocate 1400 more, says CEO

Among the layoffs are several hundred jobs at Infineon’s recently announced Regensburg factory in southern Germany.

The CEO of the German chipmaker Infineon said on Monday that as part of a previously disclosed cost-cutting drive, the company will eliminate 1,400 jobs globally and move another 1,400 roles to nations with cheaper labour costs.

Among the layoffs are several hundred jobs at Infineon’s recently announced Regensburg factory in southern Germany.

“We are ruling out forced redundancies in Germany,” CEO Jochen Hanebeck said after the company’s latest results.
