800 fake Apple devices were found in Ireland. Irish police have allegedly claimed that these items, which include AirPods and iPhone accessories and are believed to be worth $173,904 (more than 1.4 crores), were found in County Mayo. This information was revealed by the radio station Newstalk in Ireland. Earlier this week, raids were carried out against enterprises in a number of Irish towns, including Castlebar, Westport, Ballinrobe, and Claremorris.

The Garda National Immigration Bureau, the local police crime unit, and other agencies participated in this multi-agency operation. The article also stated that no arrests have been made as of yet and that the investigation is still ongoing.

According to reports, counterfeiting is still a major issue, costing the EU economy an estimated €85 billion ($92.4 billion) a year. This latest seizure comes after a similar operation in Northern Ireland in May 2024 that resulted in the confiscation of $750,000 worth of counterfeit items.

The Central Crime Branch (CCB) in Bengaluru conducted a raid in July on two stores that sold inferior cables from different brands and fake Apple goods. Over Rs 14 lakh worth of counterfeit AirPods Pro, USB-C to Lightning cables, and cables with fictitious labels such as AV Guard and Poly Cab were found. Later, local police took over the investigation.

Five Chinese nationals were accused earlier this year of cheating Apple out of more than $12 million by exchanging fake iPhones for real ones at California Apple Stores. In order to trick Apple personnel into supplying replacements under warranty, the complex scam, which operated from 2014 until 2024, used phoney iPhones with stolen identification numbers. Charges against the defendants include identity theft and wire fraud.

Two individuals were previously convicted of defrauding Apple of more than $3 million by sending in fake iPhones for repair and getting real ones in return. In order to trick Apple, phoney iPhones were imported from Hong Kong, and their serial numbers were forged.
