At the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) in Kochi, Kerala, on Friday, the Center’s Department of Fisheries and the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), Hyderabad, will hold a workshop on the use and demonstration of drone technology in fisheries and aquaculture.
A presentation about the revolutionary potential of drone technology in the fisheries and aquaculture industry will be given by the NFDB and creative companies.
A live drone demonstration on the many uses of drones in fisheries, such as transporting fish, distributing fish feed, and distributing life jackets for rescue missions, will round up the event.
The workshop will provide a unique forum for showcasing cutting-edge technological developments, with an emphasis on the critical role drone technology plays in revolutionizing and optimizing the fishing industry. More than 700 fishermen and fisherwomen are anticipated to attend the event.
The program is a component of the Prime Minister’s Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), which seeks to promote inclusive, economically feasible, and sustainable growth in the aquaculture and fisheries industry. With their primary uses in water sampling, disease detection, monitoring operations, feed management, and fish transportation, drones provide creative answers to a number of problems facing the fishing industry. Drones also help with stock evaluation and precision fishing.
“Cadalmin BSF PRO,” a specifically formulated fish feed intended to enhance sustainable aquaculture techniques for fish farmers, will be distributed prior to the session. A pamphlet titled “EG Sailas Center of Excellence” that highlights significant developments and contributions to the field will also be released.
Additionally, the meeting will serve as the formal opening of the Marine Biological Association of India (MBAI) National Symposium, a gathering designed to promote cooperation and information exchange among marine scientists nationwide.
In order to discuss the registration, survey, and certification of fishing vessels, the Department of Fisheries, with technical assistance from DG Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Ports, and Waterways, is also hosting a “One-Day Interactive Workshop” at the Central Institute of Fisheries Nautical and Engineering Training (CIFNET), Kochi, on November 8, 2024, at 9:30 AM. The workshop’s main goal is to give the Department of Fisheries of the coastal state/UTs the handholding support they need to act as the “Registrar of Fishing Vessels” and the necessary skills to conduct the technical fitness assessment of the fishing vessels, which is a requirement before granting registration or renewing registration of fishing vessels.
