Kotak declared on February 20 that Manian would be promoted to the rank of Joint MD, effective March 1. Many executives in the banking sector said that he was promoted to avoid his departure when Ashok Vaswani was selected by the RBI to be the MD and CEO. To succeed Uday Kotak as MD and CEO, the Kotak board had suggested Manian and experienced bank employee Shanti Ekambaram. Along with Manian, Ekambaram was promoted to the position of deputy MD.

Manian oversaw asset reconstruction and corporate, banking, commercial, and private operations at Kotak. He is also in charge of the institutional equity and investment banking divisions. According to a Federal Bank statement, Manian has also played a significant role at Kotak Mahindra Bank in modernizing these companies’ technological infrastructure and establishing robust transaction banking capabilities.
