Lenovo, a Chinese computer company, has reportedly started producing Al servers in India as the country grows faster than expected to become a major hub for artificial intelligence. This move expands Lenovo’s product line beyond traditional goods like laptops and smartphones.

A Bloomberg story claims that Lenovo has started producing huge, powerful computers in Puducherry and plans to open new locations in Bengaluru, including a research facility focusing on Al.

According to rumors from earlier this year, Lenovo was considering producing servers in India in order to take advantage of the nation’s production-linked incentive (PLI) program for IT hardware. Lenovo’s senior vice president of the Infrastructure Solutions Group, Vlad Rozanovich, stated at the time that the decision was in line with the company’s growing data center solutions business.

Infrastructure Solutions Group (ISG) vertical growth is expected to be double-digit, according to Rozanovich.

Lenovo, which purchased Motorola in 2014, also produces Motorola smartphones, desktops, and laptops in India. One of the first companies to benefit from the government’s PLI plan for the production of mobile phones was Motorola.

Introduced in 2020, the PLI scheme provides incentives to promote domestic production and has been instrumental in drawing in firms.

Apple has moved part of its manufacturing to India as a result of the country’s rising emphasis on domestic manufacturing and the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington. By 2028, Apple wants to have 25% of its iPhones made in India.

Apart from Lenovo, other Chinese corporations, such as Xiaomi, which currently produces wireless audio equipment in India, are investigating the possibility of producing smartphones in the nation. The maker of Apple products, Foxconn, has also been thinking of producing Al servers in India. Currently, the business constructs Al servers for major international computer companies, including Nvidia, Microsoft, Amazon, and Google.

In the meantime, Google has revealed intentions to collaborate with Foxconn’s Indian division to start manufacturing Pixel smartphones in India.

Furthermore, by the third quarter of the fiscal year 2024-2025, Mega Networks, one of the two Indian companies chosen to take part in the PLI Scheme 2.0, hopes to begin producing Al servers.
