Today, Lea Kissner, an industry veteran, took on the role of Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at LinkedIn. She has over 17 years of experience working with Internet giants like Google, Apple, and Twitter, and she offers a lot of knowledge and experience in information security and privacy to LinkedIn.
In a LinkedIn post, Lea stated on the appointment, “Big news from me today—I’m joining LinkedIn as the new Chief Information Security Officer! I’m so excited to join LinkedIn and build great things together—and great things are trustworthy things. Speaking as a heavy LinkedIn user, I know that what we do here matters and I take that responsibility seriously. I’m an engineer (and cryptographer) by training, and I believe that great security not only protects us but makes our systems work better and more robustly. My area of expertise is keeping people and data safe in all sorts of different ways, and that’s fundamentally what I’m here for: to protect our members, our customers, and my coworkers.”
Lea is a pioneer in security and privacy, having founded the area of privacy engineering, developed Google’s Zanzibar access control system, and overseen much of BeyondProd.
She has a track record of successfully creating, growing, and upgrading cross-functional teams as well as delivering large-scale fixes in the face of adversarial and regulatory pressure. Examples of these include Zoom’s 90-day security plan, Twitter’s FTC consent decree compliance, Google/Alphabet’s GDPR compliance, and a significant effort to secure Google’s systems following the nation-state hack by Aurora.
Lea formerly held the positions of Director of Engineering at Apple and CISO at Lacework for almost a year and a half. She also spent a year and a half serving as Humu’s Chief Privacy Officer.
