On Tuesday, the Lucknow police apprehended three individuals who were involved in a cyberthugs group that would trick people by pretending to be a gas station and fuel pump through Facebook ads.
There are still four gang members who have not been located or apprehended.
In 2022, on the guise of acquiring him one such agency, gang members had conned Kuldeep Kumar of Mohanlalganj, a man located in Lucknow, out of ₹34 lakh in several parts. The victim filed a police report in Mohanlalganj almost a year after realizing he had been duped by the men. Following this, a team of surveillance and computer experts was assembled to investigate the matter.
The males were identified by the police as Pravesh Kumar, 25, who is from Amethi, and Sintu Kumar, 24, and Kishu, 26, who are both from Nawada in Bihar. “There are four wanted criminals in the gang, and police are looking out for them,” said the ACP.
“The gang used to defraud people while sitting at home and then fly to other cities to withdraw the money. This gang carried out cyber frauds by changing locations like Gurgaon, Delhi, Bihar, Bengaluru, and Maharashtra,” said Rajnish Verma, ACP, Mohanlalganj, stating that the aforementioned group is from Thalpos village in the Bihar district of Nawada, where a significant number of cybercriminals live and have conducted over 100 cyberfrauds.
“The investigation revealed that there is a gang that used to get SIM cards in the name of other people, and using the same SIM card and account, a page was created on Facebook where they would target people. The men are being sent to jail, and about ₹7 lakh of the defrauded amount has been frozen,” the ACP informed.
