MAPFRE appoints Juan Bernal as CIO

Six ESG funds are available from MAPFRE, an asset management company that specializes in ESG and climate-related investments.

Juan Bernal has been named group CIO by Spanish insurance company MAPFRE, effective May 1, 2024, the company said on Friday.

José Luis Jiménez, a Spanish national who has served as the company’s group CIO since 2015, will be succeeded by Bernal.

Across its business areas, the fund manages assets worth over 50 billion euros ($53.36 billion), making it one of the biggest insurers in Spain and Latin America. Six ESG funds are available from MAPFRE, an asset management company that specializes in ESG and climate-related investments.

Along with fixed income, equities, mixed, global, and alternative investments, the fund also provides mutual funds for institutional and retail clients.

Over the course of his 25-year career, Bernal has held a number of top positions in asset management and banking. Currently, he serves as general manager of CaixaBank Asset Management. He graduated with an executive MBA from the University of Alcalá and a bachelor’s degree in business science from the EU Business School.
