His appointment comes after hackers stole $5.9 million in city cash associated with a bus contract for New Haven Public Schools through a corporate email intrusion that occurred in June of last year.
Michael Simeone, who most recently held a technology position at a law company, was named this month by New Haven, Connecticut, Mayor Justin Elicker as the first chief technology officer of the city.
Simeone will supervise the city’s technology budget in his new position and assist in coordinating technology-related efforts throughout the entire city. In addition to working with Superintendent Madeline Negron to develop the technology strategies and growth plans for the city’s Board of Education, Simeone holds the role of chief technology officer, which is headquartered within the mayor’s office.
“I look forward to applying my information technology and cyber security expertise to guide the city’s day-to-day technology operations, help support the city’s continued technology and efficiency goals, and most importantly, serve New Haven residents in this critical role,” Simeone said in a press release.
His appointment comes after hackers stole $5.9 million in city cash associated with a bus contract for New Haven Public Schools through a corporate email intrusion that occurred in June of last year. When the business got in touch with the school system to ask about a payment that went missing, officials found out about the event.
Simeone has over 25 years of experience in information technology, according to the city. Most recently, he was the chief information officer at Bendett & McHugh, P.C., a Connecticut legal company that deals with big financial institutions.
