Meta will continue to invest billions on AI even after recent market concerns caused by DeepSeek

Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, has stated that despite recent market worries raised by DeepSeek’s advancements, the business would keep making significant investments in artificial intelligence (AI). Concerns that DeepSeek’s AI models would lower the demand for graphics processing units (GPUs) caused Nvidia’s shares to drop by about 20% on Monday. Zuckerberg told investors, however, that Meta’s long-term intentions to invest billions of dollars in AI are unaltered during the company’s earnings call on Wednesday.

In 2025, Meta has already set aside about $60 billion, mostly for the construction and modernization of data centers to serve its AI infrastructure. This action is seen to be crucial to Meta’s long-term plan. In response to a question about whether DeepSeek’s advancements will impact Meta’s AI expenditures, Zuckerberg stated that the firm would continue to invest in AI since it saw it as a significant benefit, particularly given that Meta serves billions of people globally.

DeepSeek is a competitor but it is not an immediate threat

It appears that Zuckerberg views DeepSeek as a new rival in the AI market, but he stated that it is too soon to tell if this would reduce the need for GPUs. According to him, GPUs will continue to be crucial for executing AI activities like data processing. Strong AI infrastructure is necessary to support Meta’s enormous user base and scale of operations, and Zuckerberg is certain that investing in this field will offer Meta a competitive advantage.

He explained, “At this point, I would bet that the ability to build out that kind of infrastructure is going to be a major advantage for both the quality of the service and being able to serve the scale that we want to.”

Llama 4: Meta’s next big AI leap which could reduce human jobs

The creation of Llama 4, Meta’s next AI model, is a crucial component of their AI strategy. According to Zuckerberg, this model will be made to rival leading AI models, such as ChatGPT from OpenAI. It is anticipated that Llama 4 would contain sophisticated characteristics such the capacity to function independently (agent capabilities) and manage various input kinds (multimodal abilities).

“Llama 4 is making great progress in training. Llama 4 mini is done with pre-training and our reasoning models and larger model are looking good too,” Zuckerberg said.

“Our goal with Llama 3 was to make open-source AI models competitive with closed models, and with Llama 4, we want to lead,” Zuckerberg said. He added that Llama 4 could set new standards in the AI world and help Meta become a leader in open-source AI.

In a recent speech, Zuckerberg discussed his outlook for 2025, describing it as a pivotal year for the advancement of AI. According to him, mid-level programmers who presently create code may be mostly replaced by AI at Meta and other IT businesses by 2025. This would mark a significant change in the way IT firms build software.

“We will get to a point where all the code in our apps and the AI it generates will also be written by AI engineers instead of people engineers,” he said. For comparison, according to Business Insider, Meta’s mid-level software developers presently make wages in the mid-six figures, a sum that AI might significantly cut for the business.

Mark Zuckerberg aims to reach a billion users with Meta AI

Zuckerberg anticipates that Meta AI, its AI assistant, will have over one billion users by the end of the year. This is in addition to Meta’s broader AI objectives. Meta’s AI strategy is centered on personalization, providing consumers with an experience tailored to their unique tastes, passions, and cultural background. Zuckerberg thinks Meta will stand out from its rivals thanks to this personal touch.

“We believe that people don’t all want to use the same AI. People want their AI to be personalised to their context, interests, personality, and culture,” he said.
