David Chun appointed by Montclair State University as CIO

His most recent position at Sonoma State University was assistant vice president and CIO.

David Chun has been appointed as the chief information officer (CIO) of Montclair State University in New Jersey, where he will be responsible for managing the institution’s entire information technology department. On May 1, 2024, he will take over the position.

According to the university, Chun is a professor dedicated to the academic success of his students and has decades of expertise at both public and private universities as a CIO.

His most recent position at Sonoma State University was assistant vice president and CIO. Prior to that, he held positions as associate vice president and chief information officer at Hamline University in St. Paul, assistant dean at the Herbert Business School at the University of Miami, and IT director for many Fortune 500 companies.

Chun will be in charge of all IT planning, management, and supervision for the university’s Division of Information Technology as well as personnel management in his new position at Montclair.

In particular, he will be in charge of organizing and overseeing both wired and wireless networks, IT security, payroll and human resources, the student information system, the application portal, the identity and access management system, and technical assistance for teachers, staff, and students.

Chun is a University of Pennsylvania alum who earned his bachelor’s degree and is currently enrolled at Georgia Institute of Technology to pursue an advanced degree.
