LANSING, Mich. (WLNS): Class is in session for the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC), who will be attending a cybercrime training program at Michigan State University on Friday.
The program, hosted by the university’s Center for Cybercrime Investigation and Training, will teach law enforcement how to best respond to cyber threats. Specifically, the training will focus on contemporary solutions, offender and victim characteristics, investigative methods, and forms of community support.
The Center for Cybercrime Investigations and Training was established in response to the rapid increase in cybercrime. Its goal is to combat the economic, emotional, and psychological impacts this form of crime has on communities.
“Technology has transformed crime on and offline, and the center is one of the first resources of its kind to aid criminal justice agencies in responding to these challenges,” says Tom Holt, a criminal justice professor and cybercrime expert from MSU. “The center will offer training to agencies across the state in order to improve their capacity to respond to cybercrime and technology use in all manner of offenses.”
According to MSU, this training is the only program of its kind in the nation, made possible through $1 million in community fundraising.
