N Ganapathy Subramaniam, the executive director and chief operating officer (COO) of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has retired as of May 20. The same was disclosed by the business in a stock exchange filing. During the company’s fourth quarter earnings call for the fiscal year 2023–2024, TCS has announced COO Subramaniam’s retirement. Additionally, on May 19, the business disclosed this in a stock exchange report.
Subramaniam has worked for TCS for more than 40 years and was named COO in February 2017. After earning his master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Madras, he joined TCS in 1982 and participated in a number of training courses, including Stanford University’s Executive Program for Growing Companies. Subramaniam was the Executive Vice President and Head of TCS Financial Solutions before assuming the position of COO.

Why TCS is not hiring a new COO
CEO K Krithivasan has said that the company does not plan to appoint Subramanian’s replacement and will redistribute the duties. “He’s (Subramaniam) been doing many things and no single individual can replace him, our current thinking is, our leadership team, we are re-distributing the work he’s been doing and we don’t intend to appoint a new COO,” chief executive officer K Krithivasan said while addressing a press conference post the March quarter earnings.

In a recent email to employees, Krithivasan also thanked outgoing chief operating officer NG Subramaniam for his contribution to the company. “One of many values that NGS leaves with us, to carry forth, is the TCS culture of relentless client centricity. NGS has led the organization across key roles for over four decades, providing immense, selfless, and invaluable service to the company,” he wrote. “His contributions to the journey of our organization are immeasurable,” said Krithivasan.
