John Yong has been added to the board of Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) as a non-executive independent director. Yong’s position is official as of February 19.

Yong is a seasoned information and communication security specialist with over 40 years of expertise. His appointment will strengthen the board’s capabilities and support NETS’s ongoing innovation and expansion as it becomes the organization’s third non-executive independent director.

In addition, Yong has held non-executive positions, providing technology and cybersecurity advice for companies like PSA International and Singapore Pools. In addition, he is currently an adjunct professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and an adviser at the National University of Singapore (NUS).

Before his appointment, Yong served for three years as group chief information security officer (CISO) at Certis CISCO from 2016 to 2019. From 2011 until 2015, he served as the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore’s (IMDA) group head and director of the cyber security group. GovTech is the new name for IMDA. He has also held executive positions in the National Computer Board’s IT security division.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Yong to our board. We can all agree on the importance of robust cybersecurity as the bedrock of Singapore’s payment infrastructure. As we navigate the dynamic landscape of digital payments, Mr. Yong’s track record in the cybersecurity space will bring valuable perspectives to the board,” says Susan Hwee, NETS chairman.
