Nigerian Police Cybercrime Centre dismantled 5,049 malicious domains

The Nigerian Police Cybercrime Center took down 5,049 malicious domains and networks, as well as significant cybercrime syndicates that were active both inside and outside of Nigeria in 2024.

Along with recovering N8.821 billion, $115, 237, and $84,000 as compensation for the victims, the center also obtained 14 convictions.

According to reports, the center’s operationally known “Cyber Hawks” apprehended and convicted more than 751 people for cybercrime threats.

The body reports that during investigations, officers seized 26 vehicles, 16 homes, 39 land plots, 14 land documents, and 137 laptops/computers, 46 routers, four servers, one drone, and four starlink devices used by cybercriminals, totaling 685 devices.

Additionally, 508 incidents of cybercrime including cyberstalking and sextortion were recorded.

Along with Ifeanyi Uche, the director of the Police National Cybercrime Center, Force Public Relations Officer Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi announced that NPF-NCCC was named the Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa by the International Police Organization (INTERPOL).

Speaking on the arrest of suspects involved in identity theft, business email compromise and money laundering, the Force PRO said: “Following an intelligence-led investigation into the activities of a cybercrime syndicate operating on the dark web, on December 20, 2024, operatives of the NPF-NCCC apprehended a key suspect identified as Douglass Victor, in connection with crimes.

“The syndicate, led by one Diepreye Samuel specializes in compromising business emails to defraud companies and divert funds for personal use, targeting prominent companies globally to perpetrate their crimes.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to customers’ email addresses and passwords, compromising business conversations, and diverting funds to their syndicate.
“Thousands of compromised email credentials and login details were recovered from his Skype account.

“The suspect further disclosed that the syndicate operates internationally, with members located across the globe.”

Similarly, a 26-year-old Egbo Martins from Delta State was detained by an NPF-NCCC operation for aiding cybercrime by illegally creating and renting bank accounts that cybercriminals used to get money from a WhatsApp hacking network.
