More than 97% of Windows sensors are operational again, according to CrowdStrike. CEO George Kurtz said that the software update from the cybersecurity company was the reason behind the global outage almost a week prior.

CrowdStrike reports that over 97% of Windows sensors are back up. About a week after a software upgrade from the cybersecurity company caused a worldwide outage, CEO George Kurtz stated on Thursday. Installed on laptops and desktops, the company’s Falcon platform sensor is a security agent that guards against attacks. The advanced platform had a bug that caused PCs using Microsoft’s Windows operating system to crash and display the dreaded “blue screen of death,” which is why there was an outage.

Microsoft said on Saturday that the outage, which grounded aircraft, took broadcasters off the air, and prevented users from accessing services like banking and healthcare, had affected roughly 8.5 million Windows computers. Kurtz wrote in a post that on LinkedIn, “Our recovery efforts have been enhanced thanks to the development of automatic recovery techniques and by mobilizing all our resources to support our customers.”
