The Polish foreign ministry showed support for the US, UK, and Australia—three countries that recently slapped penalties on the Russian cybercriminal organisation Evil Corp—in a statement released on Wednesday.

Sanctions against Evil Corp. and its leaders were declared by the US, UK, and Australia. Evil Corp. is a notorious outfit that has stolen banking data from over 40 countries, resulting in illicit gains totalling hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide.

The U.S. Treasury Department reports that two organisations connected to the Evil Corp. and seven hackers have been subject to sanctions.

The Russian government-affiliated Evil Corp. and its head, Maksim Yakubets, were first blacklisted in 2019. The most recent sanctions include more people on the list.

“We stand in solidarity with the UK, US, and Australia, which have imposed sanctions on members of a Russian cybercriminal group,” the Polish foreign ministry stated on X.

The ministry reiterated that Poland “condemns all forms of cybercrime and advocates for strong deterrents against cyberattacks.”

The head of Evil Corp., Yakubets, is accused of using his employment at a business owned by the son of former Russian prosecutor general Yury Chaika to conceal his illicit actions. A USD 5 million reward has been put up for information that helps apprehend him.
