OpenAI announced on Monday that it has appointed Sarah Friar, the former CEO of social networking company Nextdoor, as its first chief financial officer.

As its first chief financial officer, OpenAI announced on Monday that it had hired Sarah Friar, the former CEO of social media company Nextdoor (KIND.N).

Additionally, Kevin Weil, a former employee of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, has been named chief product officer by the AI company.

Friar, who is a member of Walmart (WMT.N.) and once worked as CFO at Square, launches a new tab board. She has also held positions at McKinsey, Salesforce (CRM.N.), Goldman Sachs (GS.N.), and at McKinsey.

“Sarah and Kevin bring a depth of experience that will enable OpenAI to scale our operations, set a strategy for the next phase of growth, and ensure that our teams have the resources they need to continue to thrive,” Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, said in a statement on Monday.

The recent hires come after Ilya Sutskever, the chief scientist and co-founder of OpenAI, left in May and was replaced by Jakub Pachocki.

Pachocki oversaw the creation of GPT-4 and OpenAI Five while she was OpenAI’s director of research.

Sutskever was a major factor in Altman’s abrupt dismissal and subsequent rehire in November of last year. Sutskever was involved in the planning of Altman’s termination while serving on the OpenAI board.

A few days later, he changed his mind and signed a letter to the staff asking Altman to come back and apologizing for his “participation in the board’s actions.”

Sutskever lost his job at the company and was kicked off the board after Altman came back.

One of OpenAI’s original members and researchers on artificial intelligence, Andrej Karpathy, departed the organization in February.

In March, OpenAI announced the appointment of new directors, which included Fidji Simo, CEO of Instacart; Nicole Seligman, former president of Sony Entertainment; Sue Desmond-Hellmann, a former CEO of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; and Altman.
