Beginning in September 2024, Google will release monthly software updates for Pixel phones. The update addresses a serious security bug on Google Pixel smartphones, among other things.

What was the vulnerability?

The cybersecurity company iVerify claims that the weakness, which was found last month, is linked to an inactive piece of software in Pixel phones that leaves them “accessible to hackers and ripe for man-in-the-middle attacks, code injection, and spyware.”

Google then said that it will remove “Showcase.apk” soon, which was created years ago “for Verizon in-store demo devices and is no longer being used.”

The IT giant has now provided a cure for this vulnerability, according to the release notes of the most recent update. “Fix to remove third-party APK to address security vulnerability,” the release notes read.

The patch “to improve wireless (Wi-Fi) stability and performance in certain conditions” is another update that Pixel phones will receive in September 2024.
