Two older persons in Pune experienced cyber fraud and lost ₹38 lakhs in two different incidences. The offenses featured fraudsters impersonating officials to get sensitive banking information. FIRs have been filed at the Parvati and Hadapsar police stations, and investigations are ongoing.
First Case: ₹19.90 Lakhs Stolen from an 80-Year-Old in Parvati
The first incidence occurred in the Parvati region, when an 80-year-old resident lost ₹19.90 lakh. According to investigators, the scammers called the victim on December 15, posing as bank officials. They said that the victim’s debit card services need be upgraded. Using this pretense, they obtained sensitive banking information and moved funds from the victim’s account.
The crime was discovered after an older citizen observed an improper transaction and reported it to the Parvati police. Inspector Amol More of the Crime Branch is overseeing the probe.
Second Case: ₹18.25 Lakhs Defrauded in Hadapsar
On December 21, an elderly gentleman from Hadapsar in pune was scammed of ₹18.25 lakhs. The scammers called the victim, alleging that their gas supply will be turned off owing to unpaid payments. They directed the victim to contact “Devesh Joshi” for further assistance.
Once communication was established, the scammers duped the victim into disclosing their bank account details. Using this information, they stole ₹18.25 lakhs from the account. The Hadapsar pune police have filed a report, and Crime Branch Inspector Kalange is investigating.
The pune police have encouraged residents, particularly older persons, to be wary of unsolicited phone calls and communications. Citizens are encouraged not to reveal private financial information under any circumstances, and to report suspicious activity immediately.
