Rajasthan Police have barred 2.36 lakh suspect SIM cards and 2.29 lakh mobile devices in an effort to combat cybercrime in the Mewat region, according to officials on Monday.

In the last two months, police have recovered more than 5,000 stolen and lost mobiles and returned them to their owners, a statement by the police said.

According to the release, “Operation Antivirus” is being carried out in collaboration with the Government of India and the Centre’s Department of Telecommunications.

Hemant Priyadarshi, Director General of Police (Cyber Crime), stated that police have identified cyber offenders based on their records in the ‘Operation Antivirus’ database and are taking appropriate action against them.

Police have discovered around 2.36 lakh suspicious SIMs and 2.29 lakh mobile devices with suspicious IMEIs and stopped them by contacting the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, resulting in a significant decrease in cybercrime in the Mewat region, according to the DGP.

The IMEI is a 15-digit number that uniquely identifies a mobile handset.

Priyadarshi stated that all district superintendents of police have been directed to conduct a campaign against mobile theft.

He claimed that in the last two months, more than 5,000 misplaced mobile phones have been successfully traced across the state.

The majority of these mobiles have been returned to their owners through district superintendents of police, and the process of returning the remaining mobiles is ongoing, according to the officer.
