The SpaceX capsule carrying four private people touched down on the Florida shore on Sunday following a historic and successful flight.

The expedition, which included the first ever commercial spacewalk in history, returned to Earth after five days in orbit. SpaceX, led by Elon Musk, streamed the return to Earth live.

The mission involved former Air Force Lt. Col. Scott “Kidd” Poteet, SpaceX engineers Sarah Gillis and Anna Menon, and millionaire entrepreneur Jared Isaacman, who was also on board.

In a post on X, on the completion of the mission, Polaris posted, “SpaceX and the Polaris Dawn crew have completed the first commercial spacewalk! “SpaceX, back at home we all have a lot of work to do, but from here, Earth sure looks like a perfect world,” — Mission Commander Jared Isaacman during Dragon egress and seeing our planet from ~738 km.”

Isaacman is only the 264th person—Sarah Gillis of SpaceX is the 265th—to have completed a spacewalk since the Soviet Union’s first one in 1965. The idea of a spacewalk was formerly limited to astronauts with professional training.

SpaceX’s post on X stated, “Dragon and the Polaris Dawn crew splash down off the coast of Florida, completing the Polaris Program’s first human spaceflight mission.”
