Stellantis To Reduce Production at Fiat Turin Plant Due to Weak Demand

Stellantis will curtail production at its Mirafiori plant in Turin this month and next because to low market demand for its all-electric Fiat 500 small car and Maserati models.

Stellantis will reduce production at its Mirafiori plant in Turin this month and next due to poor market demand for its fully-electric Fiat 500 small car and Maserati models, according to a company official on Monday.

The stoppages will extend until March 30, adding to a previously stated furlough time for approximately 2,250 plant workers from February 12 to March 3, according to the spokesman.

However, it was stated that, with the exception of February 12, when the facility will be completely shut down, Mirafiori was expected to run at a reduced rate of one eight-hour daily shift rather than two standard ones during the period.

Fiat-maker Stellantis, on the other hand, has the option to completely shut down operations at the site if demand falls more in the coming weeks, he noted.

According to a union source, 300–350 individuals are scheduled to be on vacation each week, out of a total of 1,250 workers building the electric Fiat 500 and another 1,000 producing Maserati models. According to the source, some employees will be temporarily assigned to other productive divisions within Mirafiori.

Last Monday, Italy announced a new initiative worth 950 million euros ($1 billion) this year to assist drivers in switching to cleaner vehicles. It includes a subsidy of up to 13,750 euros for the purchase of fully electric vehicles.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stated last month that Mirafiori, Fiat’s historic home, was one of the plants that had suffered the most from Rome’s so-far penny-pinching attitude toward automotive incentives.
