Sterlite Technologies displays their ground-breaking MultiCore Fibre cables

At IMC 2024 today, Sterlite Technologies (STL) unveiled its ground-breaking MultiCore Fibre (MCF). STL’s MCF suite includes multicore fibre cables made from locally created multicore preform technology as well as ultra-thin fibre with seven and four cores (rather than just one).

Through a live 400G network transmission with real-time traffic simulation, STL further demonstrated the capabilities of this optical fibre invention. The foundation for the expansion of cutting-edge technologies like silicon photonics and quantum communications is being laid by this Made-In-India breakthrough.

In order to achieve ultra-high transmission capacity per fibre within the same diameter, STL’s Multicore Fibre uses Space Division Multiplexing in both 7 and 4 core fibre. In order to assess its transmission performance with cutting-edge technologies under on-field conditions, this flagship fibre was installed in the Advanced Optical Communications (AOC) Test Bed project last year. IIT Chennai and the Department of Technology are working together on this project.

Leading academics and researchers in India praised STL’s multicore fibre project as a breakthrough for ground-breaking technologies including silicon photonics and quantum communications.
