Tamil Nadu Police’s Cyber Crime Wing highlighted the rising trend of cybercrimes by stating that 1.27 lakh complaints were filed by the public in Tamil Nadu through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) last year, with 4,326 First Information Reports (FIRs) and 79,449 Community Service Registers (CSRs) being generated.

Victims in Tamil Nadu lost Rs. 1673.85 crore to cybercriminals in 2024. According to TN police, following legal action, they were able to refund Rs 83.3 crore to the victims and freeze Rs 772 crore of the stolen funds.

“In 2024, there were 838 arrests, with 34 individuals detained under the Goondas Act,” a release stated.An official statement from the State Police headquarters said that 34,392 complaints were filed on the 1930 hotline and that the control room received over 2.68 lakh calls last year.

The State Cyber Command Centre (SCCC), which has its headquarters in Ashok Nagar, is in charge of running the hotline and restricting IMEIs, SIM cards, and illegal websites, material, and social media accounts. Cybercrime investigations are supervised by the State Cyber Crime Investigation Centre (SCCIC), which focuses on investigating high-profile cybercrime cases.

Furthermore, there are 54 Cyber Crime Police Stations (CCPS) operating in every city and district in the state. To help the public and law enforcement deal with cybercrime situations, every police station now has a designated Cyber Support Officer.

After consulting with relevant authorities, the state Cyber Crime wing also blacklisted 19,359 SIM cards and a number of fraudulent platforms, including 64 Instagram pages, 54 websites, 390 YouTube videos, and 922 Facebook accounts.
