The Telangana Cyber Security Bureau (TGCSB) has arrested 48 cybercriminals in a significant operation. These individuals were involved in 2194 cases nationally and 508 instances in Telangana.
According to TGSCB director Shikha Goel, the instances resulted in a loss of Rs. 8.16 crore. She told reporters on Wednesday that the TGCSB, working with local police, carried out a large operation around the state and detained 48 cybercriminals in an effort to combat cybercrime and enforce the state’s zero-tolerance policy against them.
According to her, the TGCSB headquarters police station gathered the leads by analyzing cybercrime data and apprehending agents in a case filed under sections 318(4), 319(2), and 338 BNS of the 66 D ITA Act-2008.
The director disclosed that the apprehended cybercriminals were engaged in a variety of cybercrimes, such as courier scams, digital arrests, job fraud, business investments (trading), etc. Ten of the arrested people are agents that set up and provide Mule Accounts to the crooks, while 38 of them are Mule account holders.
By offering commission-based incentives, the agents entice the account owner to allow their accounts to be utilized for cybercrimes. These account owners knew and voluntarily gave hackers permission to use their accounts to perpetrate online crimes. These Mule account holders are all embroiled in many cases throughout the nation and in Telangana. According to her, by sharing their accounts, these people have helped and encouraged cybercriminals to perpetrate crimes all around the nation.
Among those arrested are a variety of jobless people as well as professionals like IT workers, small company owners, and taxi drivers. The arrested people have a range of educational backgrounds: 22 have a degree or above, 9 have schooling below the SSC, and 17 have finished their SSC to Intermediate.
During the operation, the TGSCB confiscated one Bajaj Pulsar bike, four laptops, five CPUs, two monitors, 18 bank passbooks, 16 checkbooks, 10 ATM cards, and 53 cell phones. The apprehended people are turned over to the relevant police departments for additional examination and court cases.
