Director General of Police (DGP) Abhinav Kumar has written to the DGPs of five states—Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh—as part of a significant initiative to strengthen the anti-cybercrime system of Uttarakhand Police in order to address the growing challenges. The DGPs have requested detailed information on the steps being taken in their states for effective control of cybercrimes. This move is part of the state’s formal efforts to enhance cybercrime management and prevention in Uttarakhand.
In his letter, DGP Kumar asked for specific information about cybercrimes reported for the previous three years under the Information Technology Act of 2000, the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and other relevant laws administered by the Bureau of National Security (BNS). He has asked the DGP of every state to submit numerical data so that cybercrimes can be compared and contrasted.
Kumar has additionally requested comprehensive information about the protocols put in place at the local, district, and state levels of government to combat cybercrimes. This includes details about the creation of cybercrime units, the hiring of qualified staff, and the accessibility of technological resources.
The DGP has also requested details regarding the procedures and plans put in place to handle significant cyber emergencies, including ransomware occurrences, data breaches, and assaults on vital infrastructure. He has also looked for information on crisis management groups and collaborations with professionals from the commercial sector or government organizations.
DGP Abhinav Kumar commented on the action he took and said it was intended to establish effective control over cybercrimes in Uttarakhand. Additionally, the Uttarakhand Police would like to make the required adjustments and modifications to its strategy for combating cybercrimes in light of the information acquired from other states. He continued by saying that increased cooperation between governments will be crucial in combating the problem of cybercrimes and in better managing new threats in this domain.
