The Bluetooth tracker company Tile was hijacked; hackers gained access to client data, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and emails.
Tile, well-known for its Bluetooth tracking gadgets, suffered a cyberattack. A report states that the company’s internal mechanisms, designed to answer law enforcement inquiries about Tile trackers, allowed a hacker to obtain consumer information, including names, addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses. How the cybercriminal obtained entry According to the report, the hacker used a former Tile employee’s login credentials to get access. The hacker’s pictures reveal that they had access to a number of internal tools, such as those meant for transferring Tile Tracker’s ownership, setting up admin accounts, and notifying users. The hacker added that they had also asked Tile to pay a ransom.
How Tile handled the breach
The CEO of Tile’s parent business, Life360, Chris Hulls, addressed the incident in a formal statement. What he stated was this: Like a lot of other businesses, Life360 was recently the target of an illegal extortion attempt. An unidentified actor sent us emails claiming to have Tile customer information. Unauthorized access to a Tile customer assistance platform was discovered during our quick examination into the possible issue (but not our Tile service platform). Names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and Tile device identification numbers are among the details that could be affected. It excludes more private data, such as government-issued identification numbers, location data, credit card numbers, passwords, or log-in credentials. This is because of the Tile customer care platform.
We think this situation is not more widespread and is restricted to the particular Tile customer support data mentioned above. We take both this incident and the protection of client data seriously. We have reported this incident and the attempted extortion to law enforcement, and we will keep taking actions to further safeguard our systems from unscrupulous users. Our dedication to ensuring family safety, both offline and online, does not waver.
