VicRoads names Crispin Blackall as CTO

After serving as temporary chief technology officer for three months, Crispin Blackall has been appointed permanent chief technology officer of VicRoads Registration and Licensing Services.

Blackall announced his appointment in a LinkedIn post, noting that when he joined VicRoads in July, he “didn’t realize that this was going to be much more than a short executive assignment.”

“Three months have passed incredibly quickly, and at the beginning of October I was appointed to the permanent role of chief technology officer,” Blackall wrote.

The Victorian state government partially privatized VicRoads, and for 40 years, a private partnership has run the company’s custom plate, licensing, and registration operations.

In 2022, Dale Andrea was named its chief information officer. After departing in April, Andrea has since accepted a position with NCS Group Australia.

Blackall has been appointed as VicRoads’ CTO, replacing the previous CIO in the company’s top IT position.

Blackall previously served as the network operator’s temporary CIO and executive general manager of digital at NBN Co.

He was the executive in charge of domain engineering and the CTO of BigPond throughout his nearly 22 years at Telstra.
