Web Werks India has planned to invest Rs 20,000 crore to develop a Data Center Park and related infrastructure in Bengaluru, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah stated on Wednesday. Once the data center project is fully operational, it will create 1000 new jobs.
The CM shared on social networking site X that the state government and the corporation had inked an agreement at Davos, describing the development of the data center as fantastic news. “This is a giant leap in our infrastructure journey. Welcome aboard, Web Werks!,” he said.
A group of Karnataka officials led by Industries Minister MB Patil traveled to Davos, where the government also signed additional Memorandums of Understanding.
The MoUs from seven companies represented a total investment of Rs 22,000 crore, according to an official statement from Patil’s office. These included Hitachi’s promise to invest in the rural economy and Microsoft’s plan to fund skill-building and governance programs.
The Minister said that MA Yusuf Ali of Lulu Group has committed to investing Rs 300 crore to construct a food processing plant with an emphasis on exports. About 200 tonnes of fruits and vegetables, such as eggplant, okra, guava, chikoo, capsicum, and chilies, are sourced from Karnataka each month by the business, which operates a chain of 250 malls. The minister said, “The Group intends to increase its export capacity by concentrating on the northern Karnataka region.”
