Women will lead not only in Tech but in all other fields, says Anita Jethwani, DGM IT at You Broadband

My advice is, whether a woman or man, a person should be clear with their goals, if not sure, they must approach and take the guidance of some successful professionals in the tech industry and know about their success stories

When asked to share a little bit about what she does and what a typical day for her is like, Anita Jethwani, DGM IT at You Broadband, in an exclusive interview with CIO News, said, well, it starts from system health check and ends with some of MIS reports by taking in between stops for troubleshooting some tech queries and answering some audit points.

When asked if she always knew that working in technology was what she wanted to do, she said, a big “YES.” The first time I decided to pursue my career in “Computers” was when I saw an advertisement on the notice board of my college. I did not have much knowledge about what it could be as no one among my friends or family members was from a Computer background.

When asked if she has ever been in a situation where gender has affected the way she was perceived or treated in the technology industry and how she handled the situation, she said, I have never been in such kind of a situation. I was always appreciated for my work and was always offered to perform challenging tasks. I did the same by accepting it at my convenience.

When asked about the best part of being a woman in the tech industry, she said, well, we can balance our personal and professional life, and as being a woman and having family, we have other roles such as a Wife, Mother which always needs our attention.

When asked if she notices a lack of women in technology, and if so, why does she think that’s the case, she said, yes, possibly the reason I feel this is because the upbringing of a girl child in the Indian culture has been different than that of a boy, but nowadays time has changed and I can see future that women will lead not only in Tech but in all other fields, as now people have understood that educating a girl child is a must.

When asked about the advice she would give to a woman considering a career in the tech industry and what she wishes she had known before starting her career in the technology industry, she said, my advice is, whether a woman or man, a person should be clear with their goals, if not sure, they must approach and take the guidance of some successful professionals in the tech industry and know about their success stories. And to achieve the goals, they have to continuously dedicate their time to it.

I was not sure how to move ahead for achieving my long-term goal. I was just accepting job offers that came my way, but those jobs were just short-term achievements.

After completing studies, fresh candidates accept job offers in a hurry, but rather before starting their career they should be clear with their long-term goals and should achieve it by setting up some small milestones to reach them.
